Wireless Access and the Local Telephone Network (Telecommunications Library)
Published in Hardcover by Artech House (February, 1992)
Author: George Calhoun
Average review score:

Wireless Access and the Local Telephone Network
This is an outstanding book that presents an analysis of wireless access vs wireline access. It is extremely complete as it is obvious that George Calhoun is a true expert on the subject. The book is filled with useful formulas to derive an analysis wireline vs wireless, introduces simple economic models, network topology models and history of the evolution of the local loop. Moreover, it has many useful references. Overall, I strongly recommend this book as it is an excellent reference for economics engineering of the local loop (whether wireline or wireless). The only problem that I foresee is that the last edition is from 1992, so this is a 10 years old book and some of the issues that could have been true then are outdated now and others proven to be wrong.

Aria of the Sea

Author: Dia Calhoun
Average review score:

VERY TOUCHING. GREAT BOOK.
As I have said, this book is very touching. The main charactor, Cerinthe Gale, has given up healing after what happened to her mother. Now, Cerinthe must finish the dream her mother had once told her and this was to dace at a royal school. She had a lot of trouble by some selfish and jelous classmates, but she had forfill the dream. Yet something is missing. She must choose what to do because the song of the sea maid stopped singing to her and she is so unhappy. She must choose who she will be before she too gives her life away, just like a girl she had once looked up to. Join Cerinthe in her journey of choices. And also if you're looking for some new vocabulary, this is your book. I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

Aria of the joys of youth
Aria of the sea is a beautifully written story about a passionate and talented girl named Cerinthe. Set in the magical kingdom of Windward, Cerinthe has one only one goal; to fulfil her dreams of becoming a dancer. Yet so many things stand in her way. The loss of her mother, her constant fear of harming those around her with her medical expertise, and her position in society are all obstacles that she needs to overcome in order to achieve her dreams. But after the first several months at school, Cerinthe isn't quite so sure what she wants anymore.

Aria of the Sea is a fantastic story, but it can also be used as a valuable lesson for young people trying to find out who they really are. The author, Dia Calhoun was trained from the ages of 5-17 to become a classical ballet dancer. I have a feeeling that with the depth of emotion Cerinthe displays in the novel, Calhoun herself struggled with deciding on her life's goals. This book should help readers recognize that life offers many posibilities and it is our responsibility to do our best to fulfill our dreams.

GREAT BOOK.
As I have said, this book is very good. It takes you inside the charactor's head and gives you some very sorrowful moments and joyful ones too. It gives you many descriptions to get the real feel of what the story is talking about. The main charactor, Cerinthe Gale, has given up healing after what happened to her mother. Now, Cerinthe must finish the dream her mother had once told her and this was to dance at a royal dancing school. She had a lot of trouble by some selfish and jelous classmates, but she had forfill the dream. Yet something is missing. She must choose what to do because the sea maid, that had once sang to her, had vanished. She is so unhappy. She must choose who she will be before she too gives her life away, just like an unhappy girl she had once looked up to. Join Cerinthe in her journey of choices and her determined acts that even you wouldn't do. She will have many brave and true acts that will help shape who she will be. I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

Firegold
Published in Paperback by Winslow Press (09 April, 2001)
Authors: Dia Calhoun and Herve Blondon

The Review
Firegold is a very adventurous and exciting book. Most of the events are very surprising, but some can be predictable. I can't think of one particular climax, the book seemed to have many. The book started out a little slow, but well before half way it grew very riveting. The most important part of the book was when the main character figures out that his father didn't like him, so he doesn't belong anywhere. The book had plenty of character development. In the beginning, the main character is very unsure of himself, but he goes through some major changes and becomes strong minded at the end. I think the supporting characters were good, and very different than each other, making the book more interesting and thickening the plot. The setting of the book, in a valley and in mountains, doesn't seem too exciting. When you actually read about the setting, it is more complex and interesting than meets the eye. The book in all has a good lesson about belonging and trust, which not many others have. I suggest you go out and read Firegold; its worth your time!

I wish I were Jonathon
Man this book kept me up hours reading it. It made me cry at parts and laugh histarically. This is my 4th time to read this book at it is still as good as I first read it. It is suspensful. It will keep you reading till you know what happens next. The author had written this book so awesome. I mean I never could have thought of any of those names or even a place of what she is talking about. I would suggest this book to anyone who likes to read

A book of Fire
The journey this book takes the reader on is unforgettable and mystical. The way Calhoun wrote the story is awesome! This is a tale of sadness and triumph. This book warmed my heart, it is a treasure amoung other fantasy books, but it is also a book where the main charachter becomes a new person. The ending showed me that you must forgive the people who have hurt you, especially the ones that hurt you the most. The mountain people, the Dalriada, sound so beautiful and graceful. I would rather be a Dalriada, wild, fierce, strong and free, instead of the plain prejudiced valley people. I felt that Jonothan's mother was with him through his whole journey to cleanse his heart and soul, and also his body. This book is a must read !

A Man for Amanda (Roberts, Nora. Calhoun Women.)
Published in Audio Cassette by Brilliance Audio (January, 1999)
Authors: Nora Roberts and Laural Merlington
Average review score:

The mystery continues.
The last thing Amanda needed was a man in her life, particularly a man who seems to hate her sister, Suzanna. But love waits for no master plan. The mystery of the missing jewels and the story of the ill-fated romance of the past continues. This is a good story, although not as well-defined as COURTING CATHERINE.

It was very good.
After listening to the audio cassette recording of Nora Robert's Courting Catherine and loving it I listened to this audio cassette recording of A Man For Amanda and I really liked it and I liked the characters a guy named Sloan O'Riley and a lady named Amanda Calhoun and I loved the continuing story of everyone trying to find the lost necklace in the old mansion. This audio cassette is a keeper and I'm hoping to find the rest of the books and audio cassette recordings for this series about the remaining Calhoun sisters

Outstanding
This was the first Nora Roberts books that I read or rather listened to. I thought it was wonderful and I am now addicted to Ms. Roberts writtings. I actually drove 45 minutes out of my way just so I could finish the book before getting home.

Dare to Dream: Connecticut Basketball's Remarkable March to the National Championship
Published in Hardcover by Broadway Books (19 October, 1999)
Authors: Jim Calhoun and Leigh Montville
Average review score:

Love the Huskies, Hate the Book...
The other readers must have read this right after the Huskies won the championship--the fact that it was such an intoxicating moment for UCONN lovers must have hurt their judgement. I for one *LOVE* UCONN, yet this book reads like a rough draft. Calhoun also reveals little about the season that a devote UCONN fan wouldn't already know. I reccomend "Huskie-Mania" by Jim Shea for Huskie fans out there.

A Fist-Pumping Journey through UConn Hoops
Calhoun and Montville have crafted a masterpiece!

Calhoun writes like he talks, quick and witty (yes, it's funny!). It is an effective, fast-break style that has readers feeling like they are participating in one of Calhoun's practices. It is never boring, always moving. If you love UConn hoops, you will love this book -- guaranteed.

Calhoun is never chest-thumping. His tone is honest, warm, and humble. He is even a little self-effacing (hey, not even The Coach is above reproach).

Calhoun takes us from his days at Northeastern and prior, through the Dream Season, and into the X's and O's of the Championship Season. You will want read this slowly because you won't want it to end! There are a plethora of tid-bits and stories about the Calhoun era that even the most avid fans will respond with frequent shouts of "Wow!" and pumps of the fist.

Thanks Coach, and thanks, Leigh -- two guys who bleed Husky blue just like the rest of us in Husky Nation!

If you've cheered even once....
...for the Connecticut Huskies you must read this book. I am a 1995 Graduate of UConn. I was at the school for a chunk of this miraculous decade. And I have never felt more proud of that school or that amazing basketball team than I do after reading this book. Jim Calhoun is funny, strong, tender and candid in this book. A man whom we don't often get an insight to (other than reading a few four letter words on his lips from the sidelines) opens his heart and soul to us in this book. He shares the moments that tore him down, and the moments that made him realize he has the best job in the world. He is an inspiration. A leader. A great coach. And, a champion.

The Calhoun Women
Published in Paperback by Silhouette (December, 1996)
Author: Nora Roberts
Average review score:

Good read, yet not as riveting as books that followed.
Having read her most recent books previous to reading The Calhoun Women, I felt that she has grown in her creativity of personal relationships. Since I read about all four Calhouns consecutively, I felt that I was basically reading the same story over again. I did like the mystery involving the emeralds and felt that Ms. Roberts did a fine job in developing that subplot. I would have to say that my favorite Calhoun story was that of Susanna's. I appreciate that Ms. Robert's female characters are strong, yet human. On the whole, the book was a good read and difficult to put down.

I loved all 4 books!
I recently read all four of the Calhoun Women Books and they were just wonderful,so intriguing and well written. Anyone who reads them must also read Megan's Mate by Nora Roberts, the last book about the Calhoun Women. I read it as well and it was just as wonderful as the others.

Enjoyed reading the book
The book bought had the first 2 stories : Catherine and Amanda. I would like to avail of the other 2 books too. I have checked if the book was available at the Barnes & Nobel and other book stores and I was wondering if you would be able to let me know where I could find the books that had the stories on the other 2 sisters: Lilah and Suszanna. Would appreciate if you could let me know. Thanks Overall a very pleasant experience reading the book.

Calhoun Women: Catherine & Amanda
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Harlequin (September, 2001)
Author: Nora Roberts
Average review score:

Two Great Romances in One
"The Calhoun Women: Catherine and Amanda" is a wonderful introduction to a family of 4 feisty, determined, and beautiful women.
This book contains the first two stories from the Calhoun series. In the first one, "Courting Catherine," tomboy C.C. Calhoun meets Trenton St. James III. C.C. is a mechanic and when she fixes Trent's car for him, she soon discovers that he's the man who is trying to buy her home, a wonderful but dilapidated mansion called The Towers, and turn it into a hotel. C.C. immediately tells Trent just what she thinks of him, but as these two spend time together the sparks begin to fly. This first story also introduces the mystery of the missing emeralds belonging to Bianca Calhoun, great-grandmother of the 4 Calhoun sisters. This is a lovely romance with an intriguing mystery added to the mix.
The second story, "A Man for Amanda," tells Amanda Calhoun's story. C.C. and Trent are now an item, and they have decided to turn one wing of The Towers into a special getaway, while keeping the rest of the home for the family. Enter Sloan, the architect Trent has hired for the renovations. His first meeting with Amanda doesn't go too well, but he finds himself completely taken with the obsessively organized and beautiful Mandy. The romance between these two is wonderfully written - when they aren't steaming up the windows they are arguing and taking shots at each other. However, Amanda soon discovers that she can't live without this handsome southern gentleman and wonders how she managed to lose her heart to him. The unbalanced and dangerous thief, Livingston, who is intent on stealing the Calhoun emeralds for himself, is introduced in this book. He causes all kinds of trouble (and danger) for the Calhouns.
C.C. and Amanda's stories are sure to please readers. Nora Roberts does a fantastic job of weaving the present day romances with the mystery of the emeralds and tying them to the long-ago story of the unhappily married Bianca Calhoun and her true love Christian. I truly enjoyed this book and I'm sure that you will too.

Typical Romance but Wonderful Nora Roberts
This is a collection of two stories. Both are very good in typical Nora Roberts fashion.

However, because both of these stories are shorter than the normal Nora Roberts books, the characters tend to fall in love faster and it is much less realistic than her longer stories.

The added drama of a missing jewels is what ties these two stories (and the others in this series) together.

In the first story- C.C. and Trent are fun to read about. They are opposites and prove that love can conquer all. The second story about Amanda and Sloan I found very enjoyable because of their constant sniping at each other.

As an added note, it is best to read these and all of the Calhoun Women books in order.

The Calhoun Women Are Imbricate!
This one is two novels reissued in one. Four sisters, two children, and an aunt living together in a huge mansion, called The Towers, which is slowly running down. This book has the story of two of those sisters.

First story is of Catherine, also called C.C. Trent wanted to purchase The Towers and convert it into one of his fancy hotel chain. Catherine is an expert at fixing vehicles. Two of the most opposite people in the world and yet they fall in love. Trent learns how it hurts to have no choice but to give up an entire family history, such as The Towers is to the Calhouns. A compromise is made. During it all, everyone is searching for the famous Calhoun Emeralds which was a legend. They were hidden somewhere in the mansion.

Second story is Amanda. Well organized and level headed, Amanda always has things running smoothly. But when Sloan enters the picture, Amanda is thrown into pure chaos. She cannot even throw him out of The Towers, because he is the architect hired by Trent to do the renovations. She must be in his presence at home, while he fixes the house. Worse, she must deal with him at her work too, since he is a guest in the hotel where she is Assistant Manager. Through it all, there is a thief intent of breaking into The Towers to locate and steal the famous hidden Calhoun Emeralds.

***Wonderful stories. I love the fact that the plot runs through all the stories, even though each woman has a story of her own.***

Calhoun Women: Lilah & Suzanna
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Harlequin (June, 2001)
Author: Nora Roberts
Average review score:

Two good stories about two great sisters
Lilah and Suzanna was a quick read. I must say, I think I liked Suzanna's story better. I did not read the first book "Catherine and Amanda" before I read this one, so I don't know if I missed something or not. Suzanna and Holt are great together and her kids are pretty cute, too. Not to mention her dog Fred and Aunt Coco. Never a dull moment in the Calhoun house, especially when great-aunt Colleen comes to visit. This book will keep you occupied for at least 2 days, if not more. I can hardly wait to read her other books!!!

Enchanting
The 2-book series of the Calhoun sisters was wonderful. I was so involved in reading both books that I couldn't put them down. I loved the way the Nora Roberts wrote and kept the reader so involved in all the characters. She made each women so dynamic in their own way and the men in the lives that fit each personality. I was so interested in reading each life and seeing how they each fit together and worked together to end the books. Great Job!

I loved this series. I enjoyed this book! Great Job!
I just really enjoy Nora Roberts. There are very few of her books that I have not enjoyed. This book is right up there with the rest of her books. The whole series is great!

Max is very bookish and smart... but that doesn't mean he is not sexy and nice and strong as well. Max is on a boat thinking he is doing a good job and helping a man as well... when he overhears that he's doing something not right he jumps off the boat and is rescued by Lilah. Fantastic. Lilah is strong and believable as woman who finds herself falling in love. Max begins working with Lilah and her family helping them to try to find the Calhoun Emeralds.

In the next story Holt is another exciting male. He has always thought that this family looked down on his family. When he is asked to help he begins by being prickly. However, eventually he begins to help search for the Calhoun Emeralds. Suzannah, the girl he considered the most uppity, turns out to be not so uppity. As they explore their feelings for each other, the search for the emeralds continues. To top it all off, the story of the ghost and the diamonds are combined to end up in an exciting conclusion.

Enjoy!

Models of Teaching (6th Edition)
Published in Hardcover by Pearson Allyn & Bacon (17 August, 1999)
Authors: Marsha Weil, Emily Calhoun, and Bruce R. Joyce
Average review score:

A Graduate Education Student's Review
After utilizing this book as the required textbook for the graduate level 'Models of Teaching' course at the University of Memphis, I can honestly say that, throughout my pursuit of a Master's Degree in Education, this has to be one of the worst texts I have ever had to suffer. I found it to be poorly written, badly formatted, and terribly confusing in its organization. Even my instructor -- who holds a doctorate in education and is a highly-regarded professional consultant in the field of adult education -- is still unsure exactly how many so-called 'models' were introduced by this unforgiveably overpriced excuse for a text! Thank heaven my classmates and I could rely on good lectures and excellent group learning activities. Leave this one on the shelf!! Better yet, tell Joyce, Weil and Calhoun to head back to English class and then re-focus their efforts on creating a teaching tool that will serve to help the student rather than frustrate him.

Models of teaching
Inspire and very reflective book when teaching becomes our first goal

Definite asset
This is a definite asset for all beginning educators. Extremely happy with the book, service, and price!
